About — the house

A small house that mends what it makes.

Ourlet was started in 2019 in a former haberdashery off Rua dos Fanqueiros. We cut in small runs, finish by hand, and repair every piece we sell, for as long as you own it.

01 — Why the name

An ourlet is the spare cloth left inside a hem.

Tailors leave it so a garment can be let down, let out, or mended years later. We think every piece of clothing should carry that kind of promise, so we build it into everything: generous seam allowances, spare buttons, a repair card stitched into the lining.

Our studio is eleven people. We buy cloth from four mills we have visited, cut no more than sixty pieces of any style, and keep the offcuts for patches and totes.

02 — How we work

01

Cut slow

Small runs mean nothing is discounted, burned or forgotten in a warehouse.

02

Sew to last

French seams, bound edges and bar tacks at every stress point.

03

Mend forever

Bring it back, any year, any state. We will fix it free.

The hands behind it.
